Layers
1 of 3 open01The case4 reasons · 4 risks
The case for
Only supplier. ASML is the only company that sells EUV lithography machines. The barriers to entry are high.
Hard to copy. Each EUV machine weighs 150 metric tons. Without ASML’s software, the machines would be unusable.
Chip demand. AI, 5G, and connected devices all need advanced chips. Forecasts put chips near a trillion-dollar market by 2030.
Locked-in customers. Intel bought all the EUV systems ASML planned to make in 2024. Our report put the order backlog near US$42B in Q1 2024.
The case against
Export limits. US and Dutch rules limit EUV sales to China.
Delicate parts. High-NA EUV machines have intricate, delicate components.
Few customers. A handful of chipmakers buy most of the machines. Losing one would hurt.
Our own model. Our DCF valued the stock below its market price.
